Lego in Lockdown
Lego. Something many of us played with as children. But somewhere around our teenage years that fascination seemed to evaporate and we left our Lego, unused, in boxes. Somewhere around 2012 my love was reawakened! From buying one set, purely from a nostalgia point of view, to having a house full of models, mixing it up with other fandoms and just becoming a little obsessed :) I'll be going through a brief history of the sets that made a me a compelte AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego), starting to build as a group with the family (and what that taught me about communication), how it's enriched my life with new friends and taking a look at the models I build during lockdown!
Omniplan, Tech Explorer DevOps (she/her)
Stacy is Tech Explorer DevOps at Omniplan, and Microsoft MVP in Developer Technologies. She’s been developing software since the mid-1990s and has been speaking about improving the way we develop software at conferences and meetups since 2018 As well as sparing with the software architect about technical issues, she spends her time helping the development team, and the wider company, with continuous improvement in terms of technical work, process and, of course, working together as a team. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her classic car, playing the piano badly and spending time with her family, doing amongst other things, building a Lego modular building city in their house.
Think Visual - My Journey from Self-Care to Tech Storytelling!
Creativity enhances communication and builds connection. From early civilization to current social interactions, "stories" are the lifeblood of information dissemination. And visual storytelling is a powerful way to tell stories combining imagery and metaphors, creating inclusive content that transcends language and engages us on an emotional level that helps us understand and retain ideas better. In this session I want to share my visual storytelling journey from its self-care origins to its tech sketchnoting present -- and talk about a visual toolkit that can help us enhance the way we capture (content), communicate (concepts), and connect (community) in work and life. You don't need to be an artist. You just need to have something to say!
